| Charles Jos Biviano |
| |
|
I create paintings that become a material record of the places, objects and historical events important in my life.
My pleasure is in sensing and conveying not only the outward appearance of life, but also the ineffable aspects that are not visual--but equally important.

| About the Artist |
Charles Jos Biviano was born in Brooklyn, New York, 1957. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the Virginia Military Institute in 1979, and subsequently entered military service as a commissioned officer where he traveled and experienced the world. After military service, Jos received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin and pursued a career as a designer where he specialized in total environmental design. Jos continues to design for Poole & Poole Architecture, a nationally recognized, Richmond, Virginia architecture firm.
From an early age, Jos was fascinated by form, color and texture as well as natural events and how they shaped the history of humankind. His paintings glorify Nature and evoke the transcendental images celebrated by the nineteenth-century Hudson River and Luminist Schools of Art. Jos's landscape paintings are marked by forceful and dramatic displays of light & shadow, intense color, and Turner-like atmospheric effects. Jos enjoys painting landscapes bathed in late afternoon sunlight when color harmonies are most pronounced. His love of landscape stems from having lived in many beautiful areas of the country, including many years in the desert Southwest, and most recently the MidAtlantic region. Although he works mainly in oil, Jos enjoys working in gouache and acrylic media. |
