Christopher Hodson

About the Artist

My work is about questions. I question the Universe, I question the physical world, I even question the viewer themselves. Though not necessarily answering them, I prefer to provide the spectator with conceptual and visual information which may or may not lead them to the premise of the work. I am inspired by everything which I find fascinating.

Paradigm

2007
6 x 6 x 6

A puzzle that can never be solved. Parts of the work can be arranged to create connections that reveal a kind of truth but it will never be solved in its entirety.

Moon Rock

2007
25 x 20 x 17

Here I present a piece of Moon Rock as a scientific curiosity. This piece revolves around a leap of faith the viewer must take. The 'Moon Rock' is actually a piece of Basalt pumice from Naples. Compostionally however, Moon Rock and Pumice are comprised of much the same elements, so it's only half an untruth.

A Model of Infinite Divisibilty

2006
Dimensions Variable

In this version, eight piles of paperclips, each half the number of the preceding pile. A work that proves an atom is infinitely divisible.

15 Statements; All are true.

2006
160 x 120

A work that explores relativity.

Light-Year #1

2006
Dimensions Variable

In this work I question the notion of a light-year. giving it a physical and understandable relationship to our physical world.

Four Chairs

2006
160 x 120

Based around Hume's philosophy that mathematics is relative.- "It is not likely, although not impossible, that in the future 2+2 will equal 3."

Dog - tin - whistle

2007
35 x 7 x 10

Here I have made an instrument that when played, produces silent music. Questioning the existence of the sounds made.

Installation View

2007
Dimensions Variable

An Installation view showing three works (l-r) '15 Statements.." (print view) 'The fabric of space and time' 'You are Here; A Map of the Universe.'
