Dana Oldfather was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1978. She has been involved in exhibitions in galleries and museums across the country. She was recently granted 2nd place best in show for the 2008 9th Annual National Young Painters Competition by renowned New York painter and art critic Peter Plagens. Oldfather is currently represented in Atlanta, Georgia, at The Bennett Street Gallery and in Cleveland at The Bonfoey Gallery. Her biggest art influences and favorite artists are Willem DeKooning, Mark Rothko, Egon Schiele, Yoshimoto Nara, Beau Chamberlain, Dana Schutz, Christine Gray and Jennifer Coates. Dana Oldfather currently lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio. |

Abstraction is a unique medium of expression. It is by nature ultimate creative freedom. Without the restrictions of representation one can create artwork that includes a composite of ideas and a myriad of emotions. Whole patterns of thought that otherwise could not be expressed, or only expressed in lengthy verbal or written language, can be communicated by the arrangement of line and form on a single surface. In an attempt to illustrate the impact of natural emotional contradiction I employ contrasting abstractions and paint layers. |
