I define my paintings as working spaces. I create a 2-d space to locate painting-making stuff — color, geometry, brush strokes, texture, collage, line. Additions to this list are endless. There is such a wealth of paint-making-stuff available today.
It is my belief that Automatism is hard-wired to my process. I use it to make many process decisions. Through dialectic analysis, I lay out the pieces of what I do, past and present, on a mental table. Where needed, I appropriate additional stuff from other painting movements and painters as well. I then select a piece here, take a piece there, make some arrangements on the computer and/or improv on the painting itself, remove a piece here, remove a piece there, add here, add there, and so on. Eventually I arrive at an arrangement that I like. I Make a painting to fit the working space. Nothing is permanent. Everything is open to further revision and work.

| About the Artist |
2009: I am exploring an invented space for color and form using automatism and chance to objectify the unknown as related to emotion, vision, sound and ambient surroundings. This project explores concepts of simplicity, flatness, color, shape and relates this stuff to you, you and it, me, me and it, you and I ——. |
