Dubravka Dubravka

About the Artist

In 1982 she started to paint with oil paints and canvas along with oil paint on glass.

This other form of painting (on glass) was for her strongly traditional defined.

First of all she started painting more traditional pieces, but over the years she has developed her own unique style.

Over the years she didn’t have much to do with the ‘pure glass painters’ as they were too naïve.

Most of her work however is influenced by symbolic and impressionistic elements.

Painting on glass is an old and relatively unknown form of painting here in Holland and therefore it requires a completely new approach to painting.

Also the setting up is completely the opposite of painting on canvas. To begin with, you start by painting the foreground then slowly build up, and lastly you paint the background, whereas with canvas you start with the background and finish with the foreground.

To make it even more difficult you cannot ‘touch up’ brush strokes, therefore each and every stroke must be ‘stuck home’ and perfect, whereas with canvas you have the ability to go back over a particular area and adjust it.

Afterwards the finished painting is well worth the extra time and effort needed to create it and therefore is more appreciated.

Another thing that’s worth mentioning is that the front layers are without oxygen (trapped behind the background and the glass) so therefore the colours in that layer remain brighter then the background and give the painting a brilliant effect.

Because of her work with oil and glass she received many prizes both home and abroad for her work.

If the visitors to this site can experience a small part of the joy and warmth she feel’s when she’s painting then the goal of this website has been reached.

..............................................................................................................................
