| 关于此艺术家 |
My work is about the creation and amalgamation of creatures and their surrounding stories. It alludes to the experience of hybrids derived from fables but going on from there to invent new characters, with a particular interest in transformation. The intention with all of the work is to make the viewer conscious of both their response to and their involvement with the characters; whether it is an awareness of the uncanny and the absurd, the notion of the spectacle; whether they are intrigued or repelled. The work also seeks to maintain a tension between this and more playful encounters with inventiveness and storytelling that leave space for the imagination to work. |

We encounter her attempting to stand up, pushing down hard on her knee with her hoof-like hand, pushing up against the huge unwieldy head. It is unclear whether the movement will break through the layers of plaster or whether she will remain constricted. She looks up for a reference point, something to fix on while she is forcing her muscles into obedience. Was this always your head, your hands? Was it out of cruelty that you were formed this way or are you happy? Under what spell are you enchanted? She is the product of and response to so many myths and stories that have been shaken around and regurgitated, spitting her out onto the floor and leaving her to get up in her own time. |

He sits in the bell tower guarding his labyrinth of passages. He looks set to stay for a while, resting on some stones he has found. Will his legs get stiff? Maybe he will spring into action and scuttle away, but he looks frozen. Who will notice him? Will they be frightened or inquisitive? He is many different things; aggressive to one, vulnerable to another, defensive to another. Is he really guardian, or prisoner? |
