About the Artist

Gape Modiegi is a Fine Artist from Botswana , currently doing his Degree program in Fine Arts.

Gape is using zebra as the main icon in his artworks , showcasing the beautiful landscapes , wildlife , culture and all other roots of Botswana .Zebra is the beautiful animal that have to be exposed to the world and pass the message through the use of visual images mixing it with the life of Botswana or Africa. With the use of acrylic paints , Gape paints his semi abstracts to reveal the lives of Botswana with the use of warm colour that shows the dry Kalahari Desert , blondes landscapes as well as the vast grasslands of Makgadikgadi Pan where zebras are mostly found. In social life , Gape uses the zebra motifs to depict Botswana culture with its different elements.

Later in the afternoon , zebras group together , relax and start massaging on each others back as part of joy and relaxation . These normally happens after they drink in the afternoon.With these good moral im showing that in life like zebras , people have to come together and cooperate .

DRYING OF MAKGADIKGADI PAN
Is the the season when the Makgadikgadi Pan start to dry . The pan will be left with patches of stagnant water , but zebra can still come to drink water before they migrate to other places where there is plenty of water. The pan will be hot and the soil turn to be reddish and brown .

These is to show how alert the zebras are . The awake zebra is the one to let others about the dangers. The light coloured background was to make the zebra to be seen clear and put it as the main character and it makes it easy to see how alert it is on these light background.

Its also a showcasing of Botswana economical boosting sources but in modern presentation of artwork. The zebra being seen with its white stripes and diamond infront as well as the cultural patterns of Botswana.

Showing zebra in another way which is graphics in stead of showing the real one , these is like making an abstraction of zebra stripes and paint with the background of blond lanscape of Botswana making it semi abstract.

Bachelor of Fine Art.
