| About the Artist |
From her earliest years, journeys to foreign countries exert new influences. But there are also journeys into an inner world, which allow us to explore areas we were previously unaware of.
Greta J. ZnojemSKY's recent work includes drawings on metal foil. Under pressure, this assumes a relief-like character, giving the work added depth. A layer of paint makes selected sections merge into the shadows, emphasising the polarity between light and shade. Many of the works are conceived in twin form. In others, their reduction into component parts is a key element, making it possible to re-assemble them in different forms. Work in three dimensions opens the way into such diverse fields as fetishes and masks, slow changes and sudden transformations. Three-dimensional exhibits such as stones appeal to the sense of touch as well as sight. A whole new field of experience is opened up by the feel and sight of soapstone, alabaster, papier-mache, everyday utensils ... in fact, anything you may find or which comes, literally, to hand.

Panorama of Life Series, 2nd H
1998 50x70cm |
|
Twelve areas of human experience serve to trace the cycle of day-to-day life. The personal, internal images inspired within these fields can be made visible in a twelve-part series and thus presented in creative, artistic terms.
Immersion in one's own being brings new, enriching experiences. Many doors are opened up if the subconscious is accepted as a source of unsuspected knowledge. Trust in one's own intuition allows a more satisfying approach to everyday life. The exploration of inner dimensions gives clearer form to what was previously confused. It increases receptiveness and awareness of one's own abilities.

’Uzbek’
2003 aluminium, acrylic 158 x 70cm |
|
The colours of the mosaics -turkoies und blue – which cover the murals of the magnificent buildings in Buchara and Samarkand (Uzbekistan) in unbeleivable wealth, have made a deep impact on me.
Fragments are most important, the separate parts of our days.
The daily life consists of many moments, whose multiple reflections can be put back together to form a new picture of the whole. The daily moments are important, they contribute to the richness of our lives, which does not exclude the disaccords. It increases awareness of one's own abilities. We are thus encouraged to see everyday life in a new light and become more receptive to the short nonsignificant moments and its sensual experiences. Thus maintains the momentum of the creative development process of life.
