| About the Artist |
My serious scientific side is expressed in my portraiture, attempting to capture the character as well at the form of my subjects. The lighter, more humorous side emerges in the caricature forms, though the universality of body language means that although the forms may be comic they resonate as instantly recognisable and I occasionally use a similar style to explore more complex social and political subjects. My strongest influences are Rodin, Giacometti and Frink, though I have recently become very interested in classical and middle eastern bas-relief, especially ancient Persian. |

Waiting Room
2009 Unglazed terracotta 75w x 45h x 35d |
|
This is how our rulers, those who drone on about the ‘ordinary person’ see us, as numbers, as interchangeable units of ‘society’, to be given what they allow us.
I believe that we are NOT numbers, we are all individuals... and so are these old dears. All of them have some small, politically incorrect, difference and vanities and none of the apparently interchangeable blocks of the waiting room bench can be swapped into different order. |
