Born in north Wales 1956, Iwan Bala now lives in Cardiff and is known as both artist and writer on art in Wales. He has travelled and exhibited widely, including Europe, the USA, Hong Kong and Africa and he has participated in several international site-specific events.

"My work deals with landscape, a physical and cultural landscape, the imagined landscape, the landscape of identity. It is an exploration and a mapping of this landscape, this sole island, and an attempt to place it within the larger landscape of the world."

A heart-shaped form is created by the reflection of an island on the surface of a still sea, or perhaps a submerged land beneath the sea is visible. The island above bears a resemblance to the outline map of Wales on it's side.. or a castle surmounting the rock. |
