Widowed in 92 and children grown I am now comming into my style of work. Most shown will be this last years. My finest achievment so far would be getting 'My Coy Mistress' into the final 50 in the Showdown. Wonderful to feel she was a genuine choice of many people.'Behind Closed Doors', was also favoured in the top 50. |

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
2008 Oils on canvas 70 X 50 |
|
This painting made the final 50 in the Showdown closed today 28/04/08. 'Behind closed doors' is a study of a once pure white door, now blistering with corruption, smothering the scream of the child behind.
Two photo images of the painting are depicted spliced together here to show how when viewed from a different angle the image of the child is almost completely obliterated by the glaze on the window panels. This rippled glass effect was produced by using a finger dipped in a heavy, tacky glaze. |
Origins
2008 Oils on canvas 914 x 711 |
|
Inspired by a marvellous photo of an Olympic swimmer, by Nadav Kander I have attempted to create my conception of the origins of the species. Man and dolphin sharing common ground yet splitting into two different species. This work made it into the top 50 selected again, and all genuine votes, no cheating. All artworks are available as signed limited editions (250) giclee prints on canvas £150 +pp, from my web site www.galleryrubenesque.com |

Blood Tides
2009 Oils on Canvas 90 x 70 |
|
Blood Tides is allegorical.I have attempted here to show the release from the pressures of pre menstrual tension and the heightened sexual awareness experienced by most women during this period, by using the yoga, almost buddha like pose, the gentle near closure of the eyes and the almost rapt expression of the face, once the blood has been allowed to flow. The vampire bats, have associations with a curse and one has been placed in the genital area purposefully, the moon represents the lunar cycle.
