Never holding back, the paintings of Jean-Michel Birais take on a most original form. With an array of colours based around the central design the artist surrounds his subject with poignant references to the major theme. | Education and biography | |
| I was born in 1952 in Nantes. I studied at the “Beaux-Arts” in Orleans and then became a ceramist for a few years. I used a wood fuelled kiln to fire my pottery and utilised plant ash in my enamelling process to capture the essence of the work of Bernard Leach. I have illustrated children’s books (Disney, Babar) and publicity material. Since 1997, the year my wife died, I have devoted my talent exclusively to my paintings. |
