| About the Artist |
My method of painting is similar to batik. First I use "hot wax resist" to draw the lines on water color paper. Then I select 3 to 5 colors of powdered cold water dyes and I sprinkle the colors on the paper. Then I activate them by spraying them with water. I like not having control at this point because I could never think up the beautiful intertwining of colors and texture that that process gives. After setting the dyes and allowing to dry, I paint with gouache structuring the composition with an opaque contrast to the transparent dyes. The next step is to embellish the paintings with water-soluble crayons similar to the gouache, using many different kinds of symbols.
"I am a very prolific, self motivated painter. I feel that each painting is going to be the best painting I have ever done - so painting for me is an adventure with lots of excitement". |
