| About the Artist |
Jody's work incorporates both the intangible and tangible. He uses his subconscious and conscious together to create abstract surreal images that express common, human emotions using bold color. To describe his work, it has the enigmatic, nostalgic symbolism of Dali, the line of Miro, the space of Matta, and the form of Tanguy, which is painted with the expressive brush of Gorky. A yin and yang technique he calls 'Trip and Drip'. While painting, he pauses regularly to meditate while he works. The canvas becomes a window of infinite space and time. During this meditation, the artist strives for pure radiance of blissful energy, beauty enjoying itself unboundedly. He only controls so much of what is going on through detailing, by letting the brush speak to him. In the end, a hallucination unfolds on the canvas. Most of his paintings are conceived through his doodling, which become the endoskeletons of his paintings. The work is then fleshed with paint or some other medium. Ironically, his work seems more related to mother nature than the nature of mind. |

Marvel at the Comic Book Orgy
2007 Oil, Spray Paint, Markers, Ink Pens, Charcoal, Glue & Collage on Canvas 18" x 36" |
|
A mixed media piece. This painting deals with the subject matter of ectasy in all it's forms (spiritual, sexual, artificial, natural, etc.). I've been in love with comic books since I was a child. And lately, being influenced by pop art everywhere, I used comic book cut-outs to create this pop surrealism piece.
Painting comes with a 2" silver frame. |
