Born and raised in the Isle of Man, I became interested in glass and left for University in 1996, since leaving University with my BA Hons in Glass and Philosophy I have studied with and worked for, some of the best glass artists in the World, and now work for myself at the Grenaby Artists Studios, which has been awarded to me for the second year running by the Arts Council, on the Isle of Man whilst teaching and demonstrating in the UK, Europe and the USA for four months of the year.

My work is and always has been deeply rooted in organized religious belief and its iconography. The idea that rules made up 500 years ago or more cannot be broken or revised; the ideology that Christ will come back and rule on the Earth for a thousand years with the righteous dead in his wake; the rumour that nuns were raped and tortured and their children murdered in a Canadian nunnery. All these premises and more are the things that interest me! My love of the 14th Century artist Hieronymus Bosch and the glass artist Bertil Valien encourage me to create wonderful what if’s… and maybe’s. Spiked with a bit of black humour to boot, I hope to encourage the viewer to think and laugh and question! |
