| About the Artist |
Recent Life, Forms Exhibition Statement:
This exhibition is a portion of my catalog, a pictorial inventory of natural specimens, and a modern day interpretation of the drawings and etchings of natural collections that were popular in the 17th century. My inventory though, has evolved from its documentary origins and is not only about cataloging objects but also collecting aesthetics. The aim is to invite the viewer to look more closely at the world around us - revealing mysteries and finding wonder in the details of the mundane. I endeavor to engage the viewer by creating a more intimate relationship with the object. I have a belief that in the haste of a typical day we fail to stop and investigate the simple beauty and magic that surrounds. It is easy to look at life from a macro-perspective, to marvel in the glory of a sunset, or the mountain peaks that surround us; but there is an equal amount of grace and splendor when one adjusts their focal point, picks up a small stone and examines its myriad of colors and textures. My goal is to remind people to slow down and take notice of the unnoticed. |
