Laurie Halsey Brown

About the Artist

Her works investigate place and a psychological, experiential relationship to space. Her intra-disciplinary art practice includes photography, net.art, drawings and video. She is also a researcher and curator.

A major aspect of her work has been her public art projects from the beingthere series, which inter-connect a series of mediums. She acts as a ‘mobilizer’ of architects and the public to facilitate dialogue, heighten awareness of the daily experience of architecture and empower the user towards establishing their voice in how architecture is designed.

digital photograph
50 x 60 cm

One of the first photographs in the simultaniety series.

simultaniety [vannelle]

2006
diptych digital photograph
50 x 60 cm each

Photograph in a series titled simultaniety of digital C-print photographs which capture moments when the interior and exterior of a building collide, when private experience melds with the surrounding architecture: creating a simultaneous private and public space as well as a simultaneous architectural interior and exterior. These works give the viewer a sense of place and it's context in space, to create a fuller sense of 'being there'. The images are made using a digital camera but the images are not digitally manipulated as it is important to the concept of the series to capture moments of simultaniety during the process of taking the photographs
