Lesley McShea
 

Ceramics is my life-long passion and I have been perfecting my craft for over 25 years.
I am a professional member of the Contemporary Potters' Association and the London Potters.
My pieces have been featured in group exhibitions since 1982 and I hold annual open studios.
My studio is shown at number 1 on the hidden art map.

About the Artist

My work is mostly wheel-thrown with some press-moulded textural combinations.
I reference elements of ancient artefacts, period garden ornamentation and architecture in my work.
I produce a wide variety of functional, individual, one-off pieces including:
elevated stemmed vessels, birdbaths, sconces, lidded bowls, vases, and candle bowls.

I prefer to use grogged stoneware clay due to its durability and versatile nature to produce rough, volcanic finishes.
The surfaces are distressed in order to maximise the contrasts in the dry vivid glazes I use.
