| Early autumn afternoon at Rossnowlagh beach, the blue sky and fine sunshine and regular rollers that have come all the way from Boston, to crash on the sand in even ranks and hypnotise the gulls amid the dunes with rolling sussuration. In time all perception of depth dissappears and all becomes a pattern of harmonic rhythm. |

| One afternoon the sunlight on the garden caught a blushing D'Anjou against the blue sky and it became for an instant a Mythical fruit sailing through space. I was paintimg a series of suns at the time, and somehow the next canvas went pear shaped, in a most pleasing fashion. |
