Louise Atkinson

About the Artist

My individual practice uses a variety of media including sculpture, textiles, installation, paper, artist books and new technology. The influence for my work derives from ideas about identity and the human condition, including psychoanalytic and transhumanist theory.

I am interested in the feminine qualities of traditional and craft-based materials and techniques within the context of installation.

I enjoy collaborating with other artists and am currently developing a number of projects including several new technology installations, and a site and context based mapping project about cultural identity and food.

Through specialising in installation I endeavour to produce multi-sensory experiences as a way of making art more accessible to people with visual impairments.

Alongside my installations, I have begun to document my work through photographs enabling me to capture the process of working while providing a tangible record of the work after the installation has been removed.
