I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I began carving in stone in 1975 and haven't stopped yet. I learned welding and began sculpting welded metal pieces in 2004.

| About the Artist |
My stone sculptures are often figurative, although not realistic. In-betweeen more figurative pieces, I like to do an abstract work, which always feels very liberating. In my metal pieces, I am able to explore line, space and form in a very different way than stone allows. Most of my metal work reflects the urban environment in which I grew up and lived most of my life.

Mermaid Bathing
2007 Portugese Pink Marble 12" x 18" x 10" |
|
Swirls of water wash over the abstract figure of a mermaid. |
Transforming Medusa
2004 Marble 12" x 15" x 4 1/2" |
|
A bas relief. The beautiful medusa as she was being transformed. In the two top ends of the piece are small snakes slithering into her curls. |
Equus
2006 Marble 14" x 5" x 11 1/2" |
|
The front of the head is soft to the touch and more realistic than either side. Each of the sides is very different. It is almost as though there are three horses depicted in this one head. |
Guardian Angel
2002 Portugese Pink Marble 20" x 13" x 13" |
|
This piece pulls you upward and outward from its sitting position. She just felt very comforting to me as I sculpted the flowing forms around and beneath her outstrected arms. |
Separation Anxiety
2007 metal, roofing nails 22 |
|
The holes in this piece reminded me of the windows of apartment buildings where I grew up. We move away from our past physically, but can never entirely break free. |
Wheel of Fortune
2006 welded metal 14" x 7" x 20" |
|
Different architectural design elements are moving in different directions. Who ever knows what will work, where? |
Looking for Harmony
2007 welded metal 20" x 5" x 28" |
|
I couldn't help thinking about music when I saw the large architectural design piece. But as I worked on this piece I was reminded of growing up and the neighbors who sat outside the apartment buildings. Everyone is looking for harmony - in life and in music. |
Home Sweet Home
2005 welded metal; found objects 13 1/2" x 15" x 9" |
|
Made from found objects, including an old wine rack, tea candle holder and placard reading "God Bless Our Home". The message for me is that home is what you make of it, whether you are rich or poor. |
