Maria Paschalidou

About the Artist

Her work has exhibited in Europe, U.S., China, Canada, Switzerland, Albania, Bulgaria, Russia and Australia. Among others: World One Minutes Beijing 2008, Beijing Today Art Museum; China, June 2008 - Project Public Screen,1st Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki; Greece, September 2007 - 2nd International Biennial for Contemporary Art Shumen, July 3-30 September, 2006; Bulgaria - International Digital Art Award 2005; Melbourne, Australia - Digital Dumbo 2002, D.U.M.B.O Arts Center; Brooklyn, NY

Paschalidou works with Video Installation, Photography, Digital Imaging & Digital Video.

Based on 'visual' metaphors and fabrications of invented spaces, ephemeral constructions, conditions and performances, her artwork concerns the interactions and transformations of the Self in its contact with the urban, cultural and technological environment.

"Fiction is always in the core of my artwork; most of my works - either being photographs, videos or interactive pieces - incorporate fictitious elements by means of multiple digital interventions, manipulations and transformations. Fiction is the tool with which I develop my concepts and my view of reality as a performative and transformative process always understood in fragments, pieces and tendencies. Fiction constitutes the library of my various translations of 'reality'; contains my artist's perceptions of history, culture, memory, geography, mobility and interruption".
