Mark Adler

About the Artist

Mark was born in Fullerton, California in 1953 and grew up in Yucaipa, Redlands and Grand Terrace.

Art and music have always been his two primary passions, which started emerging while in grade school, even winning a talent contest for drawing, becoming his first "exhibition".

In tenth grade he joined a local band which honed his keyboard skills, and got his first taste of playing music for a living.

After graduating from High School, he worked as a printer's apprentice designing graphics and logos for customers, but soon after found playing music more lucrative. This led to becoming a manager for a local recording studio, then more art exhibitions and touring.

Up to that point creating artwork was done with mostly conventional materials (ink, watercolor, acrylics) but this led to the inevitable step into the digital realm with the introduction of computers in the 1980's, opening up more creative possibilities with each new operating system and software upgrade.

In 1991 he and his wife moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where he pursued gallery exhibitions and working for Coconino County until 2001, initiating the county's web site, rejuvenating its monthly newspaper, and designing graphics and advertisements for the Recorder's Office. During this time he still pursued submitting music to record companies and publishers, finally landing a deal in 1993 resulting in the release of the "Forgotten Times" album. In 2003, he built Synthesaur Recording, and got a second publishing deal from an indie label in New York which released the Xenchaos "Uncommon Scents" album in 2005.

He continues to write and record music, design album covers and graphics for clients, and display artwork with the city of Flagstaff. Mark emphasizes, "My mission is to utilize all of the creative energy, knowledge, skills, gifts and ideas that I have been given, to produce the best and most artistic product that I am capable of producing."

Education and biography
As I have continued creating art over the years I am convinced that some of the images that manifest in front of me truly exist…just not in this time and space. It is like trying to capture something you know is there, but cannot see. It is hard to explain the feelings and emotions that rise up inside while drawing or painting, when the moment suddenly arrives where the subject matter becomes clear - and the work can then be completed with some new "insight" into what it might be. Sometimes the image never becomes obvious - like some nebulous form it has yet to make its essence or purpose clear to me, sometimes until years later. I can honestly say now that with the passage of time, some drawings were clearly prophetic. The first time I became aware of this, I was leafing through an old sketchbook from years ago when suddenly I was frozen by the shape in front of me, the meaning of it becoming clear as crystal - as if a single moment of my life were there - captured and suspended in time.

Since that revelation, I have become less prone to dwelling on the cosmic issues of where it comes from or what it means. Suffice to say I am just as enthusiastic about exploring all of its facets as I always have been, and to trust my Creator - because I know the gift is from Him.
