| About the Artist |
Marsha R. Kennedy was born in Greenville South Carolina. She is a graduate of Christ Church Episcopal School. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree with a double major in Studio Art (concentrating in Sculpture) and Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 1999. In 2003, Marsha R. Kennedy graduated from the University of Tennessee with the degrees of Doctor of Jurisprudence and Master of Business Administration specializing in Environmental Management and Global Business.
Marsha Kennedy is married to her high school sweetheart. She practiced Law full-time for five years before returning to the Arts. She currently practices Law part-time in Greenville as a Guardian ad Litem, protecting and advocating the “best interest of the child.” She volunteers in her community teaching Sculpture to retirees and religious education to fifth graders. She serves as an Artist in Residence at local schools. In her limited spare time, she also writes and illustrates children's books.
For the past fifteen years and now in her spare time, she has been creating a large collection of artwork. She has exhibited work in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Indiana since 1995. One of her pieces has also been inducted into the permanent collection at Christ Church Episcopal School. She has won various awards for her artwork including 1st place in the 2008 Sculpturama show in Tryon, NC.
Marsha R. Kennedy has always been active viewing, studying, and creating art. She works in all mediums but has a special fondness for Sculpture. Marsha has been most influenced by the work of Jackie Winsor and recently Damien Hirst. Marsha’s diverse background and interests (including Animal Rights, Religion, International (specifically Developing World) Travel, and Cross-Cultural Understanding) is evident in the theory, subject matter, and themes of her artwork. She currently has many cross media series in progress.

Anthropomorphic Series
This is a series of sculptures in different media purposely meant to interact with us on a human scale. This deals with the concept that there are so many new past and present species that are being discovered. The world’s oceans have been largely unexplored. You are unsure whether or not each piece is a preserved relic or a future evolution. Each piece is meant to leave the viewer wondering as you observe it individually and collectively. This series has additional pieces

Love Series
This multi-media series examines different types of love and the feelings involved in love. Specifically shown here is the introduction of diverse materials whether they are personality, interests, and backgrounds and their cohesion into a final abstract form upon first love. A traditional figurative approach is examined to show the scope of my skills in dealing with this subject matter. The felt piece also deals a great deal with symbolism and race. This series is unfinished.

Nationality Series
This series examines the stark reality between how we as Americans perceive ourselves and how we are perceived by others. It brings into question our value systems and also questions national identity. The title of each piece is derived from the actual events that led to its development. Whether I was in West Africa answering a question of where I was from or whether I was in South America being demanded to show a passport to someone who had no right to see it. This series is currently in progress. |
