About the Artist

Lately my aim was a portrayal of world cultures using art of a specific culture as a source. My fascination with ancient art and history has led me to museum's rich collections where I hunt for a prolific culture to explore. I’ve painted primeval India and China before discovering bronze plaques of Benin, an African Renaissance. Interpreting reliefs in media different from original posed a challenge but kings and warriors came to life in watercolours with ease. I am using this technique because of its simplicity and transparency. I paint in layers, tentatively starting with light colours and gradually building up the details, shadow and light. Uninhibited by pressures to conform as in contemporary art to deliver original or intellectually encumbered work I follow only what I want to paint at the time. I like ideas where art is used to explore something that is beyond our ordinary sense of understanding and time, or looked at it from alternative angle or method. Art that inspires me reflects on human odyssey on earth and choose concept of beauty to communicate, is concerned with essential not contemporary. Interaction with visitors relating to my work is important part of the process.
