Monday's Wash

1985
40 x 50

After a gloomy weekend of rain it is almost always nice and sunny on a Monday - perfect for the weeks' wash to be hung out to dry. Washing lines full of clothes drying in the wind feature strongly in many of the artist’s works as they provide a contrast between the clean white fabrics and the drab grey surroundings of everyday life. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

Grande Valley Station

1986
40 x 50

Time almost stands still in this painting of a Victorian designed railway station in the backwoods of Grande Valley. The old vintage car is still in daily use collecting and delivering passengers who travel through this unique old station with its elaborate hexagonal tower and ornate roofing. The inspiration for this painting came from a visit to Lanhydrock- a National Trust property in Cornwall. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

Skratchen Dent Furniture

1987
40 x 50

This interesting composition of buildings was discovered on a trip back in time and is typical of what a small rural industry would have looked like. The main building houses all of the finished furniture and while it is in need of repair, somehow it seems insignificant just to apply a new coat of paint. Hopefully the furniture coming out of this place is not scratched and dented! This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

The Optimist

1988
40 x 50

How many times have you seen this picture? It’s not hard to imagine a lovely semi-detached home well kept and maintained by current owner. This is the pride and joy of The Optimist at number 13, with a magnificent manicured lawn at the front and lovely addition to the side. The house next door needs a little work and a lot of TLC. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

Christmas at the Pole

2006
40 x 50

Imagine what it would be like to visit the Pole. All of the gifts have been delivered, the reindeer have been parked and it’s up to poor old Santa to put up the Christmas lights and get them working. Meanwhile, Mrs. Claus has been busy too, although she forgot about the wash outside that has now frozen as stiff as a board. The Elves are no where to be seen, hiding in their own igloo. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

Rodney Stoke Station

2005
40 x 50

Rodney Stoke is located between Cheddar and Wells, Somerset and there was once a station. This painting is my concept of what it must of looked like in the glorious days of steam railways. The station platform is full of goods and luggage to be sent on the next train. The building is showing signs of age and many alterations over the years. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

Country Wash

2004
40 x 50

Driving through the Somerset countryside one day, this scene was spotted, a collection of farm buildings quite grey and drab in colour and the white clean wash hanging out to dry. Washing lines full of clothes drying in the wind feature strongly in many of the artist’s works and provide an almost endless source of imaginative works. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

City Wash

1988
50 x 40

This scene was discovered on a trip to the midlands during the winter and City Wash was conceived. It is one of the first paintings that the artist painted. It is a study of the contrasts between clean wash and dirty looking drab coloured buildings. As you travel around the country you can see scenes like this in almost every town and city. This limited edition print is one of only 250 prints worldwide.

Light House No. 2

2009
Watercolour
50 x 40

Continuing the lighthouse theme and exploring more shapes and architectural styles of lighthouse construction, this light house painting depicts an early attempt at building a lighthouse using wood to form a precarious tower which sways in the wind! Early lighthouse construction saw many structures made from wood but the relentless seas quickly demolished those searly structures. The title of this painting is Light House No.2 - presumable No. 1 was demolished by the sea! This humorous look at the life of a lighthouse keeper shows the perfectly mown green grass lawn and the general clutter around the lovely whitewashed house, the garden shed and the old caravan just add to the fun that I try to put into my paintings. The washing line is an element that always features in my paintings and adds interest and a human touch to the painting. I hope you enjoy this new light house painting for 2009 as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Clifton Wood Bristol

2009
Watercolour
80 x 100

I had a clear vision in my mind of what the painting should look like and I wanted to capture only the buildings themselves and not be concerned about the trees above and below the many different coloured houses. I must admit I struggled to get the composition just right while capturing the essence of the structures and balance the many colours together so that there remained a freshness to the scene. This painting is the first I have painted that is twice as large as I would normally paint, I wanted to capture the size and detail that the buildings deserved and did not forget the washing lines!

Beach Huts No.2

2009
Watercolour
40 x 50

Beach Huts No.2
This painting is based on a collection of beach huts that I have seen in my travels and is typical of what you could see at almost any sandy beach in England. I enjoy exploring more shapes and architectural styles of beach hut construction and I always include a washing line of 'whites' out to dry in the warm sunshine. I hope you enjoy this new Beach Huts painting for 2009 as much as I enjoyed creating it.
