| About the Artist |
I share the idea of an art that creates reality instead of offering its conventional model. I want to provoke the birth of view that go beyond the boundary of reality itself. These viewpoints stress an order that exists "a priory" in nature and can be developed again and again. This aspect makes the picture exist as a signal that gives the onlooker a chance to go deep into his/her life experience and mind. This is a universal signal to which the individual responds in a unique manner and creates his/her own reality. |

THE MESSAGE
2009 variable |
|
Based on a personal experience through the years of transition of life, during the journey from the native country Bulgaria to the U.S.A., occurred after the changes in Eastern Europe started in 1989.
This is an interpretation of the Journey and Transformation theme. Nothing is steady; everything is in moving/changing balance. Includes variable number of elements (letters). Used materials are steel, aluminum, wood and patina.
The installation consists of a number of elements/”letters”. Each “letter” is aprocsimately 100x60x40 cm. For outdoor installation/location the size could be doubled.
There will be writhing/graffiti done directly on the letters – “language on language”. The public is encouraged to use the supplied in advance markers, pastels and crayons to write on the works in everyone’s native language. This interaction adds a second level of meaning to the work: Ones you could play creatively and freely with the existing letters and create your own meaning, based on your own experiences; secondly, you could add, evaluate and experience the other’s presence and influence on you.
Periodically the different stages of interaction with the surface is photographed, so a visual documentation of what is temporary, changing and hidden under the surface is preserved and shown latter, together with the work. |
Infinity
2008 stainless steel 650 cm. tall |
|
Description of work: The work is 21x5x6 feet brushed stainless steel sculpture from the series "Double Möbius Strip", 2002 - 2009, which consists of seven pieces, fabricated in different materials: corten steel, stainless steel, combination of copper and bronze, leaded stained glass. All of them are large scale, up to 14-20 feet tall.
Work statement: Infinity refers to several distinct concepts, linked to the idea of "without end" – which arise in philosophy, mathematics, and theology. The sculpture is based on the Möbius strip, which is a surface with only one side and only one boundary component. In this work I combine two Mobius strips together with common edges. The result is one "double" rich and fascinating 3D form, representing the idea of continuance and endlessness of life. |
