| Rachel Eshet |

|
born in 1954 in Israel.
"I planned to begin to occupy myself with painting when I retired, but reality led me to begin some years earlier than that. I have no formal background in this field, but I have an enormous love of beauty and rhythm, and an enormous urge to tell on canvas what goes on in my heart and in my inner thoughts.
In 2004 I bought my first canvas, and acrylic paints which I had never encountered before, and here began a love story that I hope will continue to excite and surprise me - hopefully without end."
My late Mum is my inspiration to my artwork, so I give here a place of honor and put my painting of her portrait attached to my profile.

| About the Artist |
Rachel describes herself as "embroidering with a brush" her thoughts, her memories and her experiences. And indeed, among the most obvious personal attributes of her technique are "cross-stitching" and dots. According to her, this technique comes from somewhere deep and irrational, that draws her inward to unknown places in the soul that words are not able to touch. |

cogolin
2006 acrylic on canvas 70x90cm |

When I visited Cogolin, a small town in Provence, France, I was confronted by a breathtaking variety of coloured roosters, in an endless variety of shapes and manifestations - sculptures, embroideries, pictures. It was clear that a painting was going to come of all this...The rooster is the symbol of Cogolin.
And why rooster especially? The story is about the knight Torpes, who was decapitated in 68 A.D. after refusing to deny his Christian faith. According to the legend, his head was kept in Pisa, and his body put in a little boat at the mouth of the Arno River with a dog and a rooster. The boat was finally washed up in the little Gulf port, whose name was to become famous - Saint-Tropez. The rooster flew off, and landed in a field growing linseed, near the village. So, "coq au lin", which means: rooster in the linseed. |

lily my love
2004 acrylic on canvas 50x50cm |
|
Lily, my beloved cat, died after a cruel torture by a giant dog. My heart was broken. This hard situation was the trigger of my painting - for the first time I took a canvas and put colors of excited feelings - anger, sadness and longing to my Lily |

Dr Biderman's Neighbour
2007 acrylic on canvas 60x60cm |
|
Dr Biderman - artist, gallery director, art teacher - acted as critic within the framework of a group which I attended for the criticism of works. He often used the metaphor of the lady next door in his comments, and the image took on dignity and splendour - "Dr Biderman's Neighbour" - transcendent, unattainable, an aim that cannot be realised. |
