| Richard Corbett |
| |
|
I was born in Portsmouth in 1969. After studying medicine,
I studied printmaking at Watford College and Norwich School of Art before training to be a Primary Teacher. After ten years of working in schools around Suffolk, where I specialized in teaching children with learning difficulties, I decided the time had come to devote myself full time to Art.
In July 2005, I moved into Unit 8 at Bridges, Monmouth.
I am a printmaker and painter. My prints are very original- using all sorts of household materials. My paintings have gone from abstract to figurative since I have been working from the landscape at Newport Wetlands.
I teach art one day a week at Monmouth School.

| About the Artist |
Richard graduated in Printmaking from Norwich School of Art in 1994 and then taught in Suffolk for ten years. Inspired by a letter from Sister Wendy Beckett he moved to Monmouth in 2005 to set up a studio. He has exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions in London, France and Herefordshire in the last year. Richard teaches Art at Monmouth School and leads printmaking and painting workshops locally.
‘I am fascinated by the play of light in Nature; it defines the rhythm of the days and the space around us- evoking the spiritual within us. It is that I try to capture.’
I am currently working on paintings inspired by Welsh Glades, Tuscan Olive Groves and the hidden corners of Hampstead Heath at the New end Gallery, Hampstead 6th-11th April 2010.
"This exhibition is complimentary to the Van Gogh and His Letters exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, Picadilly. I have been continuously inspired by Van Gogh and his near Contemporaries, Monet and Renoir…and so I wish to acknowledge that.
I am very excited that I will be showing my tree paintings whilst Van Gogh’s are showing just down the road."
Also I will be showing new Welsh Landscape Paintings during the Ryder Cup 2010, not far from the Celtic Manor Resort, in Monmouth. http://www.rydercup.com/2010/index.html http://www.rydercupwales2010.com/
