| About the Artist | |
Sanam Khatibi’s artistic practice considers questions of identification, as she explores ways in which the individual establishes their position in the world, particularly dealing with the cause and effect of violence, trauma, and loss. Khatibi’s imagery examines notions of violence and collective trauma. Her subjects often take a military stance, some are poised ready for battle, whilst others are under attack or wounded. In her portrayal of violent imagery she questions the relationship between power, domination and confrontation with masculinity.Throughout her practice, Khatibi investigates the complexities of human behaviour and subjectivity, as she considers ways in which the comprehension of visual imagery is shaped by the recollection of individual memories and personal experience. |
