I was born in Montgomery, Alabama but I am a Virginia girl to the core. My ancestors came to "The New World" at Jamestowne Virginia Colony from England around 1610-1611. I am also proud that I have 2 ancestors who were Captains of The Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War for the independence of our nation. I come from people who always created in some way. Be it music, carpentry, quilting, sewing, writing, growing crops or photography. Sidney Lanier (1842-1881) was a renowned poet and musician. Thomas Lanier Williams III (1911-1983), also know by his pen name Tennessee Williams, was a major American playwright. My grandmother kept personal journals and wrote articles for the newspaper. My mother is a pattern maker and seamstress who can envision a garment and have it on the body in what seems like no time at all. The talents of my people are many and I like to think they passed some of their talent to me. From the time I first went to the beach and saw the ocean, at about 10 years of age, I realized I must have salt water in my veins. I have lived near the ocean for most of my life and I expect I will continue to do so until the day I leave this earth. I moved to California at the age of 19 where I lived for about 15 years. That is when photography became a passion for me. I would get up at 5:00 am to go on surf trips with my husband where I was the "official" surf photographer. During my years in California I was a Fashion Merchandiser in the garment industry where I worked for surf wear companies Ocean Pacific (OP), Lightening Bolt Sportswear and Newport Blue. I had the great privilege of working with many outstanding artists and designers. They inspired me and taught me very much. This experience, combined with an innate sense of style, design concepts, color and composition has helped to influence me. I have had the opportunity to travel to many places and my photographs from those travels are the canvas with which I create my artwork.

| About the Artist |
My art is an outlet for my creativity and my love for the beach and the ocean. I don't try to make any particular statement or tell a particular story with my art. I am just a beach person who loves to take pictures! I love photography because there is truth behind the image. I especially love to enhance my photographs because in transforming the original image a very dramtic change takes place. I have always loved change and my art is a way to manifest change in a creative way. I think that is exciting. I also love vivid color which I use frequently in my work. My inspirations are many; Andy Warhol, surfing movies, surf contests, nature, a walk on the beach, other artists and all forms of art. |
