Shelley Dyer-gibbins

About the Artist

I like to try and show as many sides to my work as possible whether it's contemporary or traditional work. In earlier years I had always been inspired by Braque or choisy. Elements of these influences do become visable in some aspects of work even now.

The Dart

2008
80x50cms

‘The Dart’ was inspired by a recent trip to Dittisham on the river Dart. I wanted to reproduce the feeling of light and the effect it has on the water as well as the feeling of vastness that the river holds through experimentation with mark making.

Dozy Cow

2008
Acrylic on canvas
80x50cms

Based on Farmer Parfitt’s cows in Croscombe, I wanted to illustrate a humorous side to these creatures. To me they always seem so laid back and sleepy.

Katie

2006
Wax and ink
80x50cms

Katie
Katie, was inspired by an old friend of mine using wax candle and ink. This was probably one of the hardest of mediums to use, as you are quite literally painting ‘blind’. The wax is not revealed until ink is washed over it.

Fusion

2007
Acrylic & Gold leaf on canvas
30x30cms

Fusion
My father was a gilder, so it would be fitting to exhibit ‘Fusion’. Acrylic on canvas with metallic paint, gold leaf and gilder’s wax. A contemporary take on traditional gilding.

Education and biography
I obtained my BA Hons in Art & Graphic Design in 1995, and worked in London as a graphic designer for the children’s publishing company ‘Usborne Publishing’ and the entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe at YO Sushi! until 2002. Returning to my West Country roots, I spent the last five years as a Bristol-based Production & Studio Manager in Design and Advertising agencies for clients such as Kellogg’s, Pfizer, Yeo Valley, Weetabix, Ocean Spray, Schweppes, Kettles, Homes & Gardens, Homes & Interiors, Porsche, Audi and LTSB.

Future shows
I'm currently exhibiting at Frameus, The Workshops, Wells, Somerset. The exhibition will run until 2nd August 2008.
