I am confident in a wide variety of materials and techniques, but I feel most comfortable using soft malleable materials such as yarns, fabrics and more recently clay. I love to exploit the unique sensibility and plasticity of clay and I am completely entranced by the way that it is transformed by firing from soft earth into hard ceramics. The natural progression from fabric to clay has always been underlined by my love of colour and texture. The use of colour, a universal silent language, allows me to make bold statements both humorously and seriously and, linked with emotion, has formed an important part of my work.

| About the Artist |
Having no functional use, my work is purely ornamental and therefore, it must evoke something, by way of a reaction, from the observer or it has failed. To date I am primarily a maker using traditional pottery skills in ceramics, such as coil-building and reconstructed slip-castings, with an emphasis very much on individual pieces rather than mass-produced multiples. |
