About the Artist

I’m inspired by all sorts of things, not just particular people or their work. I tend to keep my eyes open and perhaps see things other people might pass by – a pattern in a fabric, a shape on a building, the way two colours might lay next to each other in the pages of a magazine.

A huge part of my inspiration comes from nature and everyday environments. I'm a 'culture sponge' - love museums, galleries, craft fairs, architecture and travel. I always have my sketchbook to hand to scribble down ideas that come to me at the strangest times - I'll scribble down ideas and notes which I’ll reinterpret in my work, even if it just sparks off an idea. I try to keep my work as original as I can so I strive to create something I’ve never seen before.

Satsuma Stripes

2006
Fused glass
9.5x9.5x0.6

Funky, contemporary coasters that will brighten up any room or even just your mood! These 4 coasters have electric orange outer edges with thin stripes of opaque and transparent colour in between. The transparent stripes in each coaster enable you to see through them - they look great stacked up!

Rainbow Quartet

2006
Fused glass
9.5x9.5x0.6

Vibrant and lively rainbow striped coasters that will bring bright colour to any room. These 4 coasters are decorated with rainbow-coloured opaque and transparent stripes of glass. When stacked, the coasters create a vibrant tartan effect if arranged at 90 degrees on top of one another. You can also see from the image below, they cast stained-glass-like coloured shadows in the right light.

Lime Trifle

2006
Fused glass, copper sheet
9.5x9.5x0.6

Almost edible jams, jellies, chocolates and cream-coloured glass stripes make up this coaster pair.

Strata Blue

2006
Fused glass, birch wood & glass frame
25x25x3

Strata Blue
Six nuggets of glass mounted in a square birch frame. Each nugget is formed by layering up stacks of coloured glass which fuse together in the kiln. The pyramid is mounted onto the frame, with textured white paper set onto a navy card below. This random paper background works to offset the symmetry of the glass to create a very contemporary piece.

Caramel Mocha Moods

2006
Fused glass
9.5x9.5x0.6

These coasters are packed full of rich mocha coffee colours. A transparent caramel base is layered with opaque cream and chocolate brown, topped off with a sprinkling of cream and a grid of bubbles.

Autumnal

2007
Fused glass, copper sheet, specialist paper
9.5x9.5x0.6

Autumal paper and copper leaf shapes trapped within a casing of clear glass.

Vortex

2007
Fused glass
9.5x9.5x0.6

Bubblegum pink floats over trapped bubbles and an aqua base.

Cherry Mint Spots

2006
Fused glass
9.5x9.5x0.6

Cream and blood red glass square spots appear to float on a turquoise base.
