Stevens Jay Carter
Stevens Jay Carter has been a working artist for nearly 20 years. He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey and received a B.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Pittsburgh.
Throughout his interesting career, Carter has always tried to be diverse and command several skills while maintaining a multitude of visions. “I look forward to the day when contemporary artists develop their skills to match their visions.”
C-Notes
THE C--NOTES SERIES The C-Note Series was started as a realistic portrait of a classical musician. In the process, the portrait evolved in to a character study of the musician whose name is Carol. In many regards, I considered myself to be taking notes about her. My intent was to show how Carol’s character was made up of layers. I understood the best approach to portraying her would be less than traditional. As I completed the first C–Note painting I was completely amazed that I had reached my goal! The work completely captured Carol’s spirit and character and was certified by all who saw the work and knew her! To date, I have created over 40 C–Notes paintings. The sizes and compositions have grown in scope and what they represent but I remain intrigued by the work and by the process. --Stevens Jay Carter
