| About the Artist |
ARTIST STATEMENT
Susan Del Conte is a multi-media artist living and working in the United States. Susan's creative process encompasses scultpture, painting, installation, photography and collage. She utilizes a diverse range of materials which share the common denominator of being unwanted, discarded and forgotten.
Some examples of these materials are rags, house paint, abandoned property, stuffed animals, paper, trash, cardboard, furniture and rusted metal.
Susan's work is as process driven as life itself. And, like life, her work is not created from a pre-determined diargram or concept. Instead, she begins by searching for and gathering bits of urban decay from city streets. When these materials are brought together in Susan's studio, alchemy begins. The works are crudely fashioned in such a way that they bring about and represent a wide variety of emotional elements. Susan welcomes the impact that chance, uncertainty and experimentation bring to her work. Her pieces serve as allegories for survival and bestow the message that all matter is valuable and possesses the potential to transform into something worthy of our time and contemplation.
