| About the Artist |
Born in Melbourne, Australia to New Zealand parents, Taisha grew up in Auckland, where she graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts with the Scott Elery Medal. Her tutors at Elam included leading New Zealand artists, Greer Twiss, Derrick Cherrie and Christine Hellyer. Following her work at Elam, Ms. Hutchison applied for postgraduate study in England and the US and was accepted into both Goldsmiths, London and to Yale’s School of Art.
At Yale, Taisha had the experience of studying Architectural History with Vincent Scully, Sculpture with Jessica Stockholder and worked for the LeWitt Collection of Sol LeWitt.
Taisha has exhibited at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, New Zealand, The University of Auckland School of Architecture, the Auckland Maritime Museum, Lopdell House and at Teststrip Gallery and in America, her "Thesis Exhibition," held at Yale University Art and Architecture Gallery, "Landmark(s)", a solo exhibit featured at Saatchi & Saatchi, The Gallery at Lincoln Center, New York and Avery Fisher Hall. "Disintegrating Houses" were selected for the Stamford Museum and Nature Center's, "Artists Play House," curated by Deborah Schwartz of The Museum of Modern Art, Joe Thompson, Director of Mass MoCA and Donald Albrecht. The Aldrich Museum's “Snapshot” curated by Jessica Hough, included Hutchison's photography, as did "Y2K", travelling between Rutgers University School of Art and the Maryland Institute. Gallery onetwenty eight on Rivington street, New York City and the Federal Reserve Bank have also selected Taisha's Art.
Her recent "Zig" Paintings began by melding two disparate forms, a Ziggurat and an Igloo-like form, disparate geographically and formally, yet possible through her use of paint. Current paintings take on icons of past and present memory and reconfigure her subject matter with a very personal and enigmatic quality.
Landmark I, a photograph held in the LeWitt Collection will be included in "Kissed by Genius," curated by Helen and Mitche Kunzman for Artifacts . Lanier . Collections, February 2010.
