Ugnius Ratnikas secures the surface of the canvas and converts it into a transparent atmospheric layer,on which stories of large eyed angels,babies and devils are drawn.Sparing drawings burst with abundance of emotions,expressing theatricalized and genuine sorrow,fright,anger and expectation.The works by U.Ratnikas remind us of the icons of basic states,these being not the reminescences of classical ones . In a curious way the author combines an expressive sparing drawing with elements of mass pop culture and innocent childish emotions with shadows of suffocating nightmares.The painter surrounds the viewers of the exhibition with a lot of open eyes brimming with emotion.Longing and fear in them are indecently open.The author seems to claim:believe it or not,this is the true affection of maternity,and these are the colours of real happiness.In this way, with the help of his graphic paintings, the author distinctively connects statics and expression,tears and laughter.His is a clowning,weeping,grieving,amazed and gaping painting.Grimaces of tiny toothed childhood, a foolish faced Madonna and aged eyes of children.This is the open, nervous world of Ugnius Ratnikas. |
