I was born in 1973 in Hamburg and spent my childhood in a village south of Hamburg, at the edge of a big forest. This resulted in my need for nature alongside the pleasues of living in a big and cultural city, I truely need both and substitute my village forest with walks in Hampstead Heath, close to my home in north London.
The second great influence were the years I spent studying in Barcelona and south France, where the strong mediterranean light and colours had a profound impact on a northern person.
Beside being a very visiual person, expressing myself in images I love the written word and no book is safe, I read at least two per week.
Besides reading, music played a big part during my growing up, starting with early musical education at the age of five and resulting in playing piano, recorder, flute, and a bit of guitar and drums. Music still plays a big part in my life as a source of energy and inspiration in my studio, in concerts and the opera.
I have travelled extensively since my teenage years, which left me speaking English, Spanish and French beside German, and with a passion for linguistics.

| About the Artist |
Without light there can be no colour. Everything is defined by colour and into my paintings I pour my passion for colour and light.
The base of my paintings is a combination of a childhood in Northern Germany with long dark winters and the significant time spent studying in Barcelona, with all the power and impact of Meditraanean light. It was there that I started my work about colour and light.
Travelling to Morocco introduced the use of texture to my artisitc practice. Sand and pigments are at the heart of the „desert paintings“ and the following “earth seriesâ€, drawn from the experiences of some time spent in the Sahara desert and afterwards from walks in my local park, whose paths show resemblance to the sandy surfaces of the desert..
Contrasting the natural colours of the earth series are the artificial and strong colours of my latest “stage paintingsâ€, inspired by my time as artist in residence of a music festival in Germany and a lot of time at the Royal Opera, London, after a newly discovered passion for opera, especially Wagner.
