Willie Marlowe

About the Artist

I am drawn to working on an intimate scale on paper. My paintings are primarily abstract with intense color, often achieved through successive layers of translucent glazes. I use waterbased media. Early Influences were Indian and Persian miniature paintings. Vermeer is an important artist to me, as well as the New York School painters, Paul Klee, and Howard Hodgkins. Travel has had an influence on my paintings, particularly the Yucatan, Ireland and Venice.
