Capable of keeping intact all the power and majesty of the Andean landscape in Peru, which she discovered in 1973, in her art Sylvie reveals the symbolism with which everything from daily chores to ritual is steeped. The ubiquity of gestures, habits and ceremonies takes us back through five centuries of cross-cultural mix.
From this inexhaustible flow of images she has serenely selected all the truth and dignity and the humanity they encompass. Vibrant, earthy and ritualistic, her art is a tribute to social balance, to the symbiosis between man and nature.
Her art progresses through large close-ups worked in blocks of colour, which makes the characters particularly moving; the background is a simple continuation of the scene. The painting exists solely to show the human, the rest is merely accessory; and the impression of calm transports us, paradoxically, to time itself, that fluid portrait of eternity….
