Born in 1973, in Bhubaneswar, the temple city of India, I then moved to a small village called 'Nihal Prasad'. My childhood was spent in the lap of green landscapes before I moved back again to Bhubaneswar for my studies.
Born into a family that has art in its blood I have seen my grandfather’s nifty hands giving shape to beautiful clay sculptures and my uncle transforming wooden logs into wonderful crafted furnitures. I felt proud sitting on the first row, every time my father received an award for his excellency in Oriya literature. I have learnt alphabets not as alphabets, but as pictures, as I remembers, I never wrote the alphabets, but have always drawn them.

| About the Artist |
My childhood cherished in the light of India’s true transition, from an underdeveloped and so-called third world country to a developing country.
It was the period when India was facing industrial growth, liberalisation of its economy and a big social change. I have seen India’s glory as a cricket world champion, Rakesh Sharma becoming the first Indian to step in to space, and the impacts of black and white television getting introduced in India. I have also seen the Indian roads changed with more numbers of Maruti cars than Ambassador cars and also more number of cars outnumbering two wheelers in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
As India was in a transition period, so was I and my thoughts as a new generation youth. This huge change has strongly inspired me in my paintings, but I have not forgotten my roots that are based in small Indian town, the village fields, the middle class ‘Mohalla’ and the international problem. My paintings reflect both, purity and innocence of village life, the green landscapes and the new face of the developing cities, the gigantic machineries, and the big skyscrapers. The reflection of rich Indian culture as well as the modern corporate India, both can be seen in my works and my color treatments.
