Rita Rodriguez Garcia

About the Artist

I want to go there, feel the heat deep inside, and then, there, fill myself with people's spirits, with their chats. And play, and sing with them all. I will not cry even though tears run through my face. In that moment, the ectasy of the tension, the heaviness of the body physically compresses me against the prefabricated package that condenses the human presence . . .

The stiffness, weight and eternity of the structure against the flexibility, the lightness of the breath, make up an strange pair, that always leaves a trail. They are always unbalanced in the scale but . . . there is harmony between container and contents.

What could the breath contain? What moves fast cannot be seen, it disappears. Besides this, the most intangible and elusive, is what cannot be seen. At this time of confusion we all are like breaths. We lose our weight and, after so much friction between the bodies, we levitate, melted into an incorporeal mass, and we do not find the rules (that make us exist).

KISS ME

2005
performance photographie
86,5 x 99,5cm.

Rita started out in the artistic group "¡Cállate zorra!" ("Shut up slut!") being conducted performances in the urban denouncing the symbolic and physical violence exerted on women. Actual continues to investigate in practice performativity, particularly interested in its development in the public arena and the involvement of people outside the world of art. Search and the camouflaging of art with everyday life, so that their actions, from the standpoint of the citizen, are perceived as foolish, strange, inappropriate or misplaced, as well as their request to participate may well receive negative responses elusive, angry or sometimes consent. In one of his performances is directed to strangers, requesting them to be sewn to it and carry on their daily activities. If at first seems what is she who is subject to another, at the mercy of their will, immediately exchanged positions, and the other can not help but be subject to it until you find someone willing the reemprazálo. On a subtle and simple, Rita evokes the subject if that occurs in relationships and how intersubjectivas ambiguous and unstable as it is experienced. In another performance, is placed at the door of a church, at the opposite end to which is located a pidiente. She also asked, but not in the usual tone-but imperative, not the usual-sinon a kiss. The fact offered passively refers to the position of women as objects of male desire, in addition to wipe out his body under a lump of plastic and report only to leave your mouth uncovered, to be ready to surrender to anyone, blindly, and outside the private sphere, eliminates any possibility of mobilizing sexual desire and becomes her, with her inconvinte and almost defiant attitude, which certainly carries a form of domination. Mar Caldas
