| Katherine Fairey |
| |
Born Cambridge, England. A graduate of Central Saint Martin's College & The Slade, my art is in the naive style and capable of appearing delightfully childlike but my innate discipline and discernment elevate it far above the childish.
 |
| |
| About the Artist |
My paintings are naive in style and are inspired by the landscape, sea, vibrant colour and my imagination. I use acrylic on paper, board or canvas and collage other items into the surface including sequins, glass, mirror, silver/gold leaf and various found objects to give texture and surprise to the images.
The incorporation of fragments of objects, glass and mirrors into some of my paintings radiates an increased depth of perspective and emotion to them. Moreover the paintings take on a 3d realism that invites you not only to look but to touch.
I prefer to work quickly, on several pieces concurrently, as it helps to retain the spontaneity and freshness in the finished work.
My favourite sources of inspiration are drawn from boats, houses and the sea; not to mention the sense of fun and laughter.
Artists’ work that I particularly admire include Bryan Pearce, Alfred Wallis and Christopher Wood. |
