| About the Artist |
I always enjoyed painting and drawing from a very early age. For me, it was a form of entertaintment. One minute I was a fighter pilot shooting down a Stuka dive bomber, and the next I was either riding the range or deep sea diving. Birthdays and Christmas provided supplies of pencils, paints and sketch books which were always eagerly received.
When I was old enough to ride my bike out of sight of my Mother and home in Perry Mead, Holtwhites Hill, I spent hours and hours in the Enfield Town reference library. It was here that I discovered the huge volumes of art that were to kindle my more serious interest in art and painting. I came to admire the energy and invention of Picasso, the outstanding technical brilliance of the watercolour master, J.M.W. Turner, and the dark imagination of Salvadore Dali. These visionary giants influenced my love of art and provided the inspiration that made me want to paint.
I specialise in the use of water based media. I spent the last three years examining watercolour techniques we use today with the aim of making watecolour more controllable and predictable. I invented a simple device called the Watercolour Charger which the artist makes for themselves. I feel it will make a significant contribution to the world of watercolour painting by extending the range of techniques and promoting further innovation in this exciting field of art. There has never been anything like this device before. It is a totally new, original "Off the Wall" development which will provide both the novice and experienced watercolour painter with an exciting new painting experience. Construction details can be found on my website. Look for Watercolour Innovation. Oh!, it's not limited to just watercolour, you can use it with gouache and acrylics also.
Painting from the imagination is my main aim, where I attempt to invent original imaginative images which have not been influenced by anything I have been exposed to. I find that trying to be totally original is one of the most difficult of things to do which is why I have deep admiration for the work of Picasso.

Returning to my roots in both technique and subject matter.
As the years pass, I find I am drawn back to the places I knew in my youth. Where birds sing, sun shines and the rainsoaked earth smelt good.
I have become more and more dissapointed with the art of today and find comfort and solace in the art of yesteryear. |

| Education and biography |
I was born with a pencil in my hand and have been drawing and creating art in one way or another all my life. I am self-taught as far as art is concerned. I didn't need a tutor to point me in the right direction. My dedication and enthusiasm for art is self sustaining and I'm lucky to have the talent and determination to be able to teach myself.
I must have read hundreds of art books in my time. Most of which would have been tutorials, so I think I have been exposed to quite a few experts and taken tuition from some of the best practitioners in the field. The likes of Roland Hilder, Frank Webb and Zoltan Zarbo come to mind but there are many more. The art of self tuition is to be selective in your reading and remember that a lot of the art book publishers don't always filter out mistakes or erroneous information. I also attended a life class on a weekly basis for three years with the Edmonton Art Society. We used to meet on a Thursday evening at the Millfield Art Centre.
Up until 2003, I spent twenty odd years as a leading designer for a North American Telecommunications Company where I played a major role in both the asthetic and technical design of many modern telecom products. Art was always my main "out of hours" interest and I can vividly recall painting pictures in my mind while sat in some boring design review meetings.
Since 2003 I have been lucky enough to be involved in creating art on a full time basis. I have been involved in a number of minor London exhibitions but most of my art exposure has been via various art galleries on the internet where the potential audience is larger. |
