| About the Artist |
My growing up days were surrounded by nature, I live near a beach and camped each weekend in the country. Since children start off fairly close to the ground, I paid a lot of close up attention to what I saw. I am left with a compelling need to make more of it, as best I can, hence the wildlife art. I cant imagine not doing it.I love marshes, mountains ,and everything natural in-between and at some point will probably paint it all. |

Gold Rush
2006 75cm x 54 cm |
|
Gold Rush is a painting that was begging me to be done as soon as I saw the raccoons. that lazy look said it all.I needed a safe place for them to sunbathe, and so the background was created. I wished to stimulate all the senses with this picture, the sound of the water , the feel of the warm stones, texture of fur , sensations of heat and cold, and the smell of water. My intention is to surround the viewer with it. |
still moment
2005 mixed watercolour and gouache 49 x 64cm |
|
Still Moment was created in my mind whilst I was observing this wolf. It was within feet of me, and looked past me as if I was not there. I truly think that for the wolf, I wasnt. Not part of his world, and unimportant. I wanted to recreate that moment in the wild, a wolf doing what it does most, observing its environment for anything of interest to it. This is a moment when we enter the wolves world, It will never be the other way round. |
Brief Glimpse
2005 mixed watercolour and gouache 76 x 41 cm |
|
Brief Glimpse is named for this captured moment only seen by the very lucky few. One of the rarest big cats in the wild the snow leopard is as elusive as they get, living at altitudes that will kill a human if endured for long.I have tried to capture the texture of the fur and the sparkle of the snow as well as the depth of shadows in this painting and with carefull research have built up this image of the high Himalaya and a brief glimpse of this snow cat. |
Flight Feathers
2005 mixed watercolour and gouache 67 x 22cm |
|
Whilst researching the natural habitat of harris hawks I kept getting sensations of height and heat and so I created a painting that brings the viewer to bird height.what is it looking at? does it go? the bird is unsure and so are you. It gets ready... and spreads its flight feathers.. |
Harris Hawks on Saguaro
2005 mixed watercolour and gouache 56 x 42 cm |
|
Harris Hawks are group hunters like a wolf pack and live in deserts with cactus instead of trees. They are used to limited perching space and can be seen perching on top of each other several birds high. They are well adapted to the spiny saguaro cactus. This painting was to place the hawks firmly in their environment resting and ready to hunt. |
Last of the Light
2005 mixed watercolour and gouache 30.5 x 23.5 cm |
|
An endangered cat, the snow leopard is facing extinction which gave me the inspiration for this painting. Named not only for the flash of light in the cats eye and its light coat, but for the fact of its status in the wild. I would invite you to look at the image and imagine it without the cat, the true meaning of the title should become clear. If this were the last one, it truly would be the last of the light. |
Swiss mountain Snow Shadows
watercolour 40 x 29.5 cm |
|
Painted looking from a ridge at the base of the Eiger, monarch and Jungfrau massif in Switzerland this image captured me with its clarity |
Bee on Chives
2006 mixed watercolour and gouache 25.5 x 20 |
|
Bee on Chives is a watercolour and gouache painting done from a photograph taken in my back garden. I wanted to create a feeling of depth and recession and the vibrancy of the bee contrasted well with the colours of the chives. |
