Frank Pohlmann

About the Artist

My artwork comprises installations, sculpture, graphics and video- displays.
I like to include technology into my work.
The result is a peculiar mix of 'high and low technology' solutions to aesthetic problems.

I find my artistic inspiration in the inner workings of nature.
As an artist I am inward looking, concerned how nature touches the emotions and soul of man.
As a scientist I am outward looking, interested in the objective nature of things, what they are made of and how they work.
In my work I do not try to reconcile these diametrically opposed approaches.
Instead I find a beauty in the counterpoint between the two.

timelab The visitor penetrates time by entering the installation. The main theme of this sculpture – installation is time. All shapes contain, and in fact, are time. see also picture above(artist) and www.timelab.net

wormhole

2005
100m of elastic string

100m of rubberband knit together to form a vibrant wormhole. from pressrelease : transform your timepiece into a spacetime-piece ! By placing timepieces (out-of-use watches) into the wormhole and carefully positioning the watches in relation to each other, the installation will demonstrate how time is changed near a wormhole. see www.colourandeinstein.net

Air sculpture/Brent Cross

2003
kinetic sculpture

In a transparent column, air is pushed upwards by a ventilator. Flyers of different colours are swirling around giving rise to changing patterns of colours and shape.

Shape and Colour of Air

2004
digital graphic for a proposed installation

The coloured spheres enclose air. Think of them as airbubbles, ascending from the floor to the ceiling. Different areas of the spheres are coloured in different ways. As the spectator changes her/his viewpoint different colour patterns will occur. The central element of the display is a huge semi- transparent structure. It has a sort of transcendental appearance, being only ' half- present'. It visualizes the stream of air circulating inside the hall.
