Ritagail Burleson

About the Artist

I have sketched at Mass (Roman Catholic worship) for a little over 10 years now. I guess "God" is my inspiration, but not like we think of God being limited merely to religious settings. So, while some images will be more traditional, many more will be of nature, or abstract or, well, just however they come out!

I've only been doing some bigger paintings and photography for about 3 years. I've made a few small mosaics. I like to put natural items together to make a temporary image, then photograph it.

I like to draw with the simple paint program on the computer to illustate my poetry. I used to make "illustrated books" as a young child. I hope to bring some of that to reality as I will be working on files at a website that offers "print on demand". I will update here when I get any of those files ready. I also might try some illustrated children's stories.

You can read more about things in my blog, which is the link I have at the bottom of this page. Frequently, I rant and rave on my blog, so be forewarned!

Love (on the Rocks)

2006

Sometimes I like to put natural materials together to make temporary images, then photograph them.

Deer Tracks

2006
photograph

This is one of my newest photos. I was hoping to photograph some turtles, but they always get mad at me when I try to take their portraits....I saw these deer tracks in the sun with that one stem of grass.....who needs turtles?

Refuge

2006
water-soluble oil

I had a dream that my spiritual director told me to go into a blank teepee. I was terrified. When I got inside (in my dream) there was the most beautiful light, and lots of art supplies. Then, I didn't want to leave!

Poet of the Rocks

2006
simple computer paint program

This is from one of my illustrated poem "journeys" that I sometimes post on my blog.

Spring Portrait

Leaf Heart

2004 (?)
photo of leaves and flowers, etc.

This is an older photo, one of my first efforts at assembling natural materials and photographing the image.

Mass Sketch (brown pencil)
