Lilach Bar-ami

About the Artist

My work is engaged in the local Israeli identity, my childhood scenery and a reality of constant threat and fear through observing a distinctive "other", inspired in particular by Japanese and Chinese cultures.

I am interested in the tension created between "high" and "low" art, male and female, central and marginal. By blending and grafting those themes, using elaborate female hand-work and traditional craft, especially paper cut-outs - I try to remove old borders and create something new. Submerging into the Israeli rough identity, which is so personal, I try to come out and explore other places, more global and apparently more calm and peaceful.
