About the Artist

Here I present eight images from my ongoing collage series ' Glossy Magazine Tear Sheets'. Although I am a painter, in oils on canvas, drawing and works on paper are the foundation of my art. Each of my paintings can take six months to complete. It can take years to find the images that form my collages but each one takes only a few days to make. Part of the enjoyment of collage is the ability to complete complex figurative narratives with speed.

Glossy magazines are sheer ephemeral luxuries, always a heart-stopping mix of smiles and tears, pleasure and pain. Making collages from glossy magazines, Tear Sheet images, is my way of taking control of this marvellous and monstrous world and re-ordering it to tell a subversive story.

Amoung my inspirators for collage are Hannah Hoch and John Stezaker.

Education and biography
At the age of five I went as a boarder to Nadine Nicholaeva-Legat's Russian Ballet School. Great teachers in dance, music and art taught me how craft, skill and technique are essential if artists are to liberate themselves from their own limitations and find the strength to dig deep and create art of the highest calibre.

At Northampton College of Art my drawing master was the superb teacher Henry Bird RA, and at Central St Martins College of Art my fine art tutor Derek Boshier introduced me to his friend and co-founder of the British Pop Art movement, Pauline Boty, whose use of colour continues to be an influence on my work.
